Anastasia Micheals, materials researcher and instructor in materials engineering, works with a wide variety of materials, including metals, ceramics, composites, and polymers. She has more than 14 years experience in industry and government in the areas of materials characterization, analysis, and processing. In her consulting work, Ms. Micheals applies her experience to analyze failures, including materials failures due to processing and manufacturing defects. She also performs testing of solids, liquids and gases to determine a variety of characteristics, including strength, composition, and the presence or absence of defects. She holds an M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Stanford University, and teaches Materials Engineering at San Jose State University. She manages the Scanning Electron Microscopy Laboratory of the SJSU Materials Characterization and Metrology Center; in this role she both performs and directs research and materials characterization. She is active in several professional societies. She is an officer of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the Electronic Device Failure Analysis Society (EDFAS), and is Treasurer for the Engineering Sciences section of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS). She was Program Chair for the 2007 AAFS Annual Meeting in Seattle, and is Chair for the Summer 2008 Seminar of the Society of Forensic Engineers and Scientists (SFES).
